Quite simply, politics begins at grassroots.

Our local MP, Lisa Nandy, is a Labour Party MP and represents her constituency in Parliament. Lisa is also the Shadow Levelling Up Secretary.

Our local council chamber in Wigan is made up of 75 councillors – and 61 are Labour Councillors.

Wigan Council is therefore a Labour-controlled council. Labour councillors make decisions on things like budgeting, policies and new projects.

Many local Labour volunteers are younger people who would like to be involved in politics in the future, or people who just want to see their Labour councillors and Labour MP represent them and their communities in politics.  Some are former councillors or MPs themselves and still want to support the party.
