Councillors Debbie Parkinson and Terry Mugan, along with Labour campaigner Sam Fleming, helped parents following requests for a zebra crossing outside St Marie’s Primary School.
The requests came after one particularly bad car crash in February 2023, when a car came off the road and ploughed into a hedge outside a property.
This area is very busy at schooltimes with Standish High and St Marie’s Primary pupils crossing the road here. The traffic, being close to the A49, is very busy at peak times.
Councillors submitted an emergency report requesting a zebra crossing outside the school, as well as Stop signs to replace the Give Way signs at the junctions of Greenwood Road and Avondale Street and railings at the same junction.
Debbie said: “We attended the area before and after school, asking parents to sign a petition. After submitting the parents’ views and an assessment by the council’s highways team, the zebra crossing is now complete!”
This is a great example of how your Standish Labour Team is working hard all year round for local residents, and how positive change can be made when a need arises.
