Campaigning in Ince 2024 Janice David

In the May 2nd local elections, we are proud to field a candidate in each of the 25 Wards in Wigan Borough, which also includes Leigh and Makerfield constituencies.

In the Wigan constituency, which is made up of 8 Wards, we are happy to have eight current councillors standing for re-election.

They are:

  • Aspull, New Springs and Whelley: Cllr Laura Flynn
  • Douglas: Cllr Matt Dawber
  • Ince and Scholes: Cllr Janice Sharratt
  • Pemberton: Cllr Eileen Rigby
  • Shevington with Lower Ground and Moor: Cllr Vicky Galligan
  • Standish with Langtree: Cllr Terry Mugan
  • Wigan Central: Cllr Michael McLoughlin
  • Wigan West: Cllr Sheila Ramsdale

Labour GM Mayor, Andy Burnham, is also standing again in the GM Mayoral elections, which will be voted for on the same day.

We urge all members and supporters to contact their councillors all year round with issues via email, at surgeries or by phone. And we have a great presence on social media too – please follow Wigan Constituency Labour Party and your local ward page on Facebook.

We have been leafletting throughout the constituency so that every home is informed of the hard work their local councillor has been doing. Some houses will get missed due to access, dogs, safety etc – if for some reason you have not received a leaflet, please contact your local councillor and we can email a PDF or hand deliver one to your home.

Don’t lose your vote!

We are urging people to hand in their postal vote on time, or attend your local polling station (find your designated one here) and want to remind everyone that (thanks to the Tories) they will need photo ID to vote – it doesn’t have to be valid, as long as the photo still looks like you.

If you have misplaced your polling card, fear not – you don’t need it to vote.

And if you can’t get there on the day, you can apply for an emergency proxy vote. Check if you are eligible here.

If you are struggling to access your local polling station, lifts are available – please contact your local councillor for more info.

Thanks so far to everyone who has supported their local Labour team’s campaign – or even just chatted to us on the doorstep. We appreciate your help and input. Let’s get our 8 councillors re-elected so we can continue transforming Wigan for the better!
